Darfur Needs Your Help

Here is a message from Suzie Armstrong from the Save Darfur Coalition http://www.savedarfur.org/. 

Monday's update from Jerry Fowler, who is still in Sudan, was moving:

"From IDPs we consistently heard expressions of fear and a pervading sense of insecurity. Clashes between the government and rebels are happening in some areas, but such organized fighting is not widespread. Nor is there systematic violence against civilians. But neither is there a sense of stability, security or peace. Quite simply, nothing is resolved."

March 4th will mark a year since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Bashir for crimes against humanity. In response, he callously ousted humanitarian groups providing over 40% of aid such as food, medicine, and clean drinking water that Darfuris rely on to survive. Through international advocacy by organizations such as ours, and the valiant efforts ofhumanitarian organizations on the ground, that gap has been partially filled, but the displaced population and others remain vulnerable.

With your help, we can turn this anniversary into a victory for the people of Darfur.

Your gift will help us by:

• Generating nationwide earned media around new stories and images from the ground;
• Organizing events and generating actions that pressure the U.S. government and United Nations to clearly call the upcoming Sudanese elections unfair;
• Supporting Sudanese civil society leaders working towards a lasting peace and true democracy in Sudan.

April's elections – the first in over 24 years – should have been a chance for millions of Darfuris to decide the fate of the government that murdered their friends and neighbors and forced them out of their homes and into dangerous displacement camps. Instead, we fully anticipate that Bashir will manipulate these elections to legitimize his oppressive regime.

Thank you for standing with the people of Sudan at this pivotal moment.
